SHREEMAD RAAJCHANDRA’S
“Aatma Siddhi Shaastra’s” interpretation “Aatma Siddhi No Antar Aatmaa”
Written by – Dr. Pravinkumar K. Tejookaya
“Aatma Siddhi No Antar Aatmaa” written in a span of a night by me on 09-04-2001 incidentally is the same day when a century ago on 09-apr-1901, Kripaalu Dev Shreemad Raajchandraji’s soul left his body to be born at “Mahaa Videha Kshetra” a planet in the far off galaxy for his last birth before his eternally liberated soul going to “Moksh”.“Aatma Siddhi No Antar Aatmaa” is an interpretation of Shreemad Raajchandraji’s
“Aatma Siddhi Shaastra” which is a concise and succinct (brief), yet in-depth interpretation of the sacred gem “Aatma Pravaad” (in-depth discussion about the soul) is the seventh volume of the 14 volume masterpiece known as “Chaud Purva”, a tome (large scholarly book) of Jain Philosophy.
“Aatma Siddhi Shaastra” written by the ever compassionate guru, Shreemad Raajchandra whose quest for self knowledge led to an in-depth cognizance (understanding) of soul’s innate pure form. This wisdom is especially pertinent in today’s tainted times when its essence is all but lost.
In a state of enlightened self-realization, Sadguru Shreemad Raajchandraji, at the young age of 29, wrote “Aatma Siddhi Shaastra” in a total stream of spiritual consciousness, in a span of 90 minutes, one single night on Thursday, 22, October 1896 at village Nadiaad in Gujaraat, India.
1) Soul exists (every living thing has an independent soul)
2) Soul is eternal
3) Soul is the doer of its own “Karm” (deeds)
4) Soul is the experiencer of one’s own “Karm”, bearing consequences of its own deeds - good or bad.
5) Soul can be eternally liberated i.e. achieve “Moksh”.
6) There are remedies to achieving eternal liberation of the soul i.e. “Moksh”.
These six eternal truths in relation to the soul are key to understanding and achieving the inherent purity of the soul. A complete belief in these verities (truths) is a passport to attaining the desirable state of rectitude (virtue). This book, the “Aatma Siddhi Shaastra” takes the form of a dialogue between guru and disciple. The disciple debates and raises questions and the true guru resolves them. The true guru does so by extolling the virtues of self-knowledge i.e true qualities of one’s own soul and its significance in spiritual upliftment and in doing so also helps the reader understand these key precepts (principles) in the quest for eternal peace.
The book's first couplet i.e. first “gaathaa” starts with a salutation to the true guru and the last couplet i.e. last “gaathaa” is a paean (homage) to the omniscient, liberated Tirthankars who have showed the path to emancipation for all. Jain religion is a pure religion of the soul. Therefore it is rightly called “Aatma-Dharm”. Following this path has led to the enlightenment of infinite souls and will lead to the enlightenment of infinite more souls in the future.
It is every soul’s fundamental right to become liberated – this privilege is not restricted to a chosen few. Every soul is responsible for all its own deeds, good or bad. The universe is cyclical and evolutionary. Jainism, unlike other religions does not believe in any single entity as creator, sustainer or destroyer of the universe. All that happens in the entire universe is self-regulatory and the universe is eternal, all those souls who are absolutely purified, i.e. “keval gnyaanee” and because of their balance “aayush karm” are in the physical body are destined to be cast away when their balance “aayush karm” gets exhausted and also those who do not have their balance “aayush karm” and their eternally, absolutely purified liberated soul that has attained “moksh” are the true Gods. The word God, i.e. “bhagwaan” or “param aatmaa” or “ishwar” etc. is wrongly and commonly used for not absolutely purified souls, who by their past good deeds known as “punya” are worshipped, they should be correctly called “dev” for a male or “devee” for a female since they are not absolutely purified souls, they are reborn like all the living creatures including us. All the “bhavya-aatmaas” among all the living creatures including us, if they follow the true “aatma dharm” their “aatmaa” will be absolutely purified i.e. they will become gods. To achieve this with ease I have written the “bhaavaarth” i.e, interpretation of Krupaalu Dev Shreemad Raajchandraji's “Aatma Siddhi Shaastra” and I have taken it as a mission to guide any or everyone who wish, without taking any monetary benefits or credit, because all the credit belongs to Krupaalu Dev Shreemad Raajchandraji. The true gurus are those who propogate the path of soul-enhancement that help the disciple achieve “Moksh”. “Aadhyaatma” is the spiritual discipline of self . Making the evolution of the soul its only purpose, thereby the soul can be freed from the misery and find infinite bliss, is the crux of this discipline.
Sat Gurudev Shreemad Raajchandra, in his masterpiece “Aatma Siddhi Shaastra”, has used the creative construct of two opposing personalities to better explain the distinction between desirable and undesirable vis-à-vis the soul. The positive personality who is only interested in liberating one’s own soul pursues a true guru and is endowed by qualities like gentleness, forgiveness, contentment and simplicity, etc. On the other hand the opinionated and materialistic personality makes erroneous judgments driven by negative emotions like pride, anger, greed, fraud etc.
These negative personalities can be divided into three categories:
1) Believers who worship lowly entities or even worship liberated souls i.e. “Tirthankars” to gain material success or riches – true enlightenment eludes such souls because of their misguided pursuits.
2) Non-believers who do not believe in the existence of the soul.
3) A combination of believer and non-believer – those who would desire material gains but also delude themselves into believing that they can achieve the highest level of liberation by indulging in mere ritualistic and false activities.
“Moksh” is possible only through true knowledge of one's soul and the true acts that comprise of equanimity that is “samkit”, detachment and non-animosity etc.
“Aatma Siddhi Shaastra” is drenched in the precepts of true spiritual knowledge and aspirants to liberation cannot do better than inculcate these with the help of a true guru to lead them to true salvation. For such aspirants, I have attempted to provide an easy to understand and concise yet comprehensive explanation in the form of this book. It is a genuine and heartfelt endeavor to the best of my understanding and capacity, to make this gem accessible to all readers irrespective of their proficiency in the Gujraatee language. Content credit for this effort completely belongs to Sat Gurudev Shreemadji. On the other hand, all errors, typographical or otherwise, are my own. I request the eager reader to overlook them and imbibe the true meaning of this book in the right spirit.
I have taken upon me as a mission to spread the message of “Aatma Dharm” i.e. Jainism through 142 couplets (284 lines) of “Aatma Siddhi Shaastra” written by Shree Sadguru Shreemad Raajchandraji, I have only written its interpretation i.e. “Bhaavaarth” in 710 lines i.e. just 5 lines per couplet i.e. per “Gaathaa” in short, simple, clear and yet comprehensive and in-depth interpretation i.e.“Sarvaangee Bhaavaarth” so it becomes easy to understand “Aatma Dharm” meaning a true and real religion of one's own soul, it is not a monopoly of any caste, creed etc. but it belongs to every living thing. Any religion “Dharm” other than that is not one's own religion but it is alien religion, can also be called materialistic religion which is widely followed under different names, which cannot liberate one's soul to eternal bliss but binds oneself to eternal misery.
